Writing Professional Press Releases Workshop
Melbourne, 18th April 2010,
The Federation of Australian Muslim Students and Youth (FAMSY) held a workshop on the 18th of April aimed at educating their members on how to write and issue a press release with the aim of augmenting their skills so that they could become greater community leaders.
The idea for the workshop arose out of the need for this skill due to FAMSY’s involvement in issues and events that often concern the public. Under the guidance of successful lawyer and journalist Shabia Montoo the participants learnt about the required skills and techniques that create an effective and catchy press release.
Enas Sammak leader of the FAMSY advocacy committee attended the workshop and said “it’s really interesting to see what goes on behind the world of media as the steps to even acquire media coverage are difficult”.
Enas’s committee are aiming to host an awareness dinner on the issue of Palestine and feels that after Shabia’s informative tutorial they will hopefully be able to issue a successful press release for their event.
FAMSY hopes to continue to have similar workshops with the aim of cultivating the leadership skills within its promising young members.
